Step by Step –
Explore Nature on Foot
More than 100 kilometers of well-marked hiking trails wind their way through the Venosta Valley, with some routes starting right outside our holiday apartments. The only question is: will you choose a gentle stroll through orchards, a summit climb, or a hike along the sun-kissed slopes of the Sonnenberg or Nördersberg mountains? We’ll be delighted to share our personal recommendations for the most scenic routes.
Waalwege & themed trails
through the Vinschgau Valley
For families and active travelers with an interest in culture and history, the Venosta Valley offers a wealth of themed trails. These picturesque routes meander through nature, past castles, fortresses, and monasteries, or follow the course of ancient irrigation channels.
Dating back to before the 13th century, these channels were once built to water the sun-drenched slopes. Today, they provide gentle, almost level walking paths – especially inviting in spring and autumn. The Ilswaalweg and the Kastanienwaalweg irrigation channel trails as well as the Silandro/Schlanders Culture Walk all begin just a short distance from the Schnatzhof.
Glide into the Mountains -
Lifted to the Peaks
In just a few minutes, you’ll be whisked to panoramic heights, enjoying sweeping views over the valley as you ride – and stepping straight onto hiking trails the moment you arrive, thanks to the region’s cable cars and chairlifts.
The cable car to S. Martino in Monte/St. Martin am Kofel, on the sunny side of the Venosta Valley, is only a 10-minute drive from the Schnatzhof. Operating year-round, it takes hikers directly to breathtaking high-altitude trails.
From spring through autumn, the Tarscher Alm mountain pasture chairlift – about 20 minutes away – glides up to the lush green slopes of the Nördersberg mountain, the perfect starting point for unforgettable Alpine hikes.
Summit Cross in Sight -
Between Alpine Pastures and Peaks
Every step into the rugged mountain world takes you further away from everyday life. Breathtaking 360° panoramas and the vastness beneath your feet are what make alpine hiking so unforgettable.
The Venosta Valley offers a wide variety of summit tours, scenic Alpine pasture hikes, and long-distance trails.
Some start just a short distance from our holiday apartments: a stage of the Venosta Valley High Mountain Trail, the route across the Kortscher Sonnenberg mountain, or the hike over the Kreuzjöchl ridge. You can also set off on foot to the Göflaner Alm or the Tappeiner Alm mountain pastures.
And after your hike? Return to your own four walls – and simply relax.
