Whether on a road bike, mountain bike, or e-bike, it’s no coincidence that the Venosta Valley is considered a true cyclist’s paradise. The region offers an incredible variety of routes – along quiet roads, through forests, across alpine meadows, and even into high Alpine terrain.
One of the highlights is the historic Via Claudia Augusta, a 150-kilometer, well-marked cycling route lined with cultural treasures and inviting spots to pause and recharge.
Mountain bikers will find several trailheads close to the Schnatzhof. For longer tours, you can take the bike shuttle or hop on the Venosta railway – the station is just a two-minute ride away. And if you don’t have your own bike, mountain bikes and e-bikes are available to rent locally.
The Allure of Road Cycling – Between Alpine Passes and Panoramic Views
The road cycling season here runs from March until late November. You can set off directly from your apartment, following the Etschradroute cycle path along the ancient Roman road Via Claudia Augusta – either toward the medieval town of Glorenza/Glurns or in the direction of Merano/Meran via Naturno/Naturns.
The starting point of the famous Stelvio Tour – with its legendary 48 hairpin bends climbing to the 2,760-meter Stelvio Pass – is easily reached by public transport. And with the South Tyrol Guest Pass, the ride is free of charge.
